Golf Beside Aberlady Bay

The golf course at Kilspindie Golf Club officially opened on 26 November 1898. Luffness Golf Club created the links before adopting the Kilspindie name in 1899. Willie Park Jnr and Ben Sayers designed the layout, and only minor changes have followed.

The round begins with a par-three played due north, followed by three holes facing the prevailing wind. The 2nd is the course's only par-five and can feel much longer when the breeze comes off the Firth of Forth. Its modest yardage leaves room for recovery, though exposed greens and coastal conditions still ask for sound judgement.

Two small stone buildings give the course a rare piece of local history. The "Target" near the 5th tee and the "Magazine" near the 12th were used when the local Territorial Army shared the land with golfers before the end of the First World War.

The shore, salt marshes, and birdlife of Aberlady Bay stay close throughout the round. Edinburgh and Arthur's Seat can also be seen across the water in clear weather.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Kilspindie brings a shorter, more intimate links round into an Edinburgh-region golf experience. Its compact scale can suit a lighter day between longer championship courses, while the wind and shoreline keep the golf engaging. The club also offers hickory-club hire, which fits the course's traditional character.

Kinfern can pair Kilspindie with nearby Gullane or Craigielaw, giving golfers a close look at East Lothian's varied links heritage while keeping travel between rounds straightforward during their stay.
