Across the Headland to the Sea Hole

The golf course at The Glen Golf Club grew from the nine-hole Rhodes Links, which opened in 1894. North Berwick Town Council later appointed James Braid and Ben Sayers to create a new municipal layout, and the completed course officially opened in June 1908 with an exhibition tournament featuring J. H. Taylor, Alex Herd, and Harry Vardon.

The routing climbs from the town onto exposed headland above the Firth of Forth. Elevated tees and partly hidden greens ask golfers to judge distance carefully, while coastal wind can change the character of the shorter holes.

The 13th, known as the "Sea Hole", is the course's signature par three. Its blind tee shot must carry towards a sloping green close to the shoreline. The following holes continue along the cliffs, including the bunker-lined par-five 15th.

The round finishes from an elevated 18th tee overlooking North Berwick, the Firth of Forth, and its islands. This final descent gives the East Links a closing view as memorable as its coastal middle stretch.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

The Glen gives a Kinfern itinerary a second side of North Berwick beyond the celebrated West Links. Its location at the eastern edge of town makes it practical to combine both courses within the same stay, while Edinburgh sits about 25 miles away.

Kinfern can place it before or after another East Lothian round, depending on preferred pace and tee-time availability. Visitors are welcomed from 9:30am onwards, and practice facilities beside the clubhouse make the course a straightforward addition for travelling golfers.
