Gullane Golf Club (No. 2)

Across Gullane Hill to Aberlady Bay

The No. 2 Course at Gullane Golf Club opened in 1898 after the club asked Willie Park Jr. to lay out a second 18 holes on Gullane Hill. Park, twice Open champion, was paid ten guineas for the work. His routing gave the club a second championship links with its own character beside No. 1.

The early holes run near No. 1 before the course climbs the hill. The par-four 4th plays downhill towards the Firth of Forth, but five cross bunkers complicate the approach. At the 8th, the tee overlooks the nature reserve before the routing drops towards Aberlady Bay.

The Aberlady Bay loop begins at the 11th and continues through the 13th. The long downhill 11th asks for exact club choice, often into the prevailing wind. The 12th turns towards a raised green on the edge of the reserve, while the two-tiered 13th brings play back uphill. The last five holes return towards Gullane village, where wind direction can turn possible birdies into a stern finish.
