Braid's Broad Parkland Challenge

The East Course at Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club opened in 1927, when James Braid laid out the estate's first course across rolling parkland beside Dalmahoy House. Its broad scale remains central to the experience, with generous driving areas followed by strategically placed bunkers and large greens.

Dalmahoy calls the course "The Beast", a fitting name from the championship tees, where it extends beyond 7,400 yards. The fairways offer room to drive, yet scoring still depends on finding the right position and controlling approaches into receptive putting surfaces. The 17th, known as "The Wee Wrecker", brings a sharper demand with five bunkers protecting its par-three green.

A 2005 renovation introduced new 13th and 14th holes through the trees, creating a tighter section before the closing stretch. The course's tournament history includes the 1992 Solheim Cup, where Europe secured its first victory, along with the Scottish PGA Championship and Scottish Seniors Open.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Dalmahoy suits golfers who want a championship round without leaving the wider Edinburgh stay behind. The resort sits seven miles from the city centre and four miles from Edinburgh Airport, with accommodation beside two 18-hole courses and practice facilities.

Kinfern can use the East Course as the inland counterpoint to East Lothian's coastal links, giving an itinerary a clear change in landscape and playing demands. Its on-site setting also reduces transfers, leaving more time to enjoy the estate before or after golf.
