Old Tom's Links by Aberlady

The golf course at Luffness New Golf Club opened in 1894 after Henry Hope, owner of Luffness Estate, created a new course entirely within his land. Old Tom Morris designed the layout, while the former Luffness club later moved closer to Aberlady and became Kilspindie. Founder member F.G. Tait, twice Amateur Champion, remains part of the club's story, and the 15th bears his name.

Play becomes more expansive after golfers cross the road to the sixth tee. The route moves over firm links ground with small greens and bunkers placed to challenge preferred angles. The 4th is a long par five with a deceptive hollow before the green, while the 12th presents a visually intimidating drive among several bunkers. The 18th ends beside a Valley of Sin-style hollow.

At 6,581 yards and par 70, Luffness New depends more on wind, control, and position than length. It has also staged qualifying when The Open has been held at Muirfield, fitting a course whose quiet setting masks a serious championship test.

Why Add This Course to Your Golf Experience

Luffness New offers a quieter side of East Lothian golf, with a members' club atmosphere and a clubhouse where tradition still shapes the day. Visitor access runs from Sunday to Friday, and dining remains part of the experience for suitable tee times.

Kinfern can place the course alongside Gullane or Kilspindie, keeping transfers short while changing the style and pace of each round. It suits golfers who value firm links turf and a setting rich in local golfing history.
